The course is intended to teach English as a foreign language at general level. Also deals with ESP. It is focused on practical, everyday communication for the international workplace.

Learning outcomes of the course unit
Students will be made familiar with general vocabulary for the workplace, as well as grammar structures for everyday communication at pre-intermediate level.
Prerequisites
Course is intended for students within the combined study programmes who are familiar with the language at elementry level. They are expected to have the knowledge and skills corresponding secondary school courses.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The course is intended for the combined form of study, indivudual work of students is directed by lectures and exercises taught en bloc.
Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes
Course-unit credit is awarded on condition of having attended the seminars actively, worked out assigned tasks and passed a credit test . In case the benchmark of 60% is not achieved, there is a possibility for the student to resit the test. Finally, students' work in the e-learning support of the course is also reflected in the overall course assessment.
Aims
The aim of the course is to equip students for real-life tasks that arise in a wide range of technical occupations.
Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences
Attendance at seminars is systematically checked by the teacher. Absence may be in justified cases compensated for by the agreement with the teacher.

1. Introduction. U1: Present simple (do, be) and question words. Talking about companies and jobs. First meetings.
2. U2. Present continuous and Present simple. Jobs, make, do, have. Emails. Talking about schedules and arrangements, going to.
3. U3: Past simple. Travelling to work. Telephoning. Asking for and giving advice.
4. U4: Passives. Describing people and objects. Meetings. Asking for and giving opinions, agreeing and disagreeing.
5. U5: Countable and uncountable words. Quantity. Presentations. Eating out.
6. Revision.
7. Credit test.
