Troubleshooting
FSI-KTR Acad. year: 2016/2017 Winter semester
Troubleshooting means solving of process operation troubles. In other words "what to do if process works differently from requirements".
Various strategies and manuals for solution of troubles are presented on practical examples of process plants (butadiene production, styrene production, ABS copolymer production and others):
- problem identification;
- searching and verification of causes;
- solution proposal;
- realization and evaluation.
The subject includes also video presentations of practical examples.
Good knowledge of Process Engineering basics is expected (material and energy balance, chemical process field measurement, process hydraulics, heat exchange).

Learning outcomes of the course unit
Using an entertainment form students will practice their basic process engineering knowledge and judgement in the field of mass and energy balances, hydraulics and heat exchange. The most common design procedures and design failures will be discussed. The lectures are based on real process plants problems.
Prerequisites
Basic knowlege of chemistry, physics, physical chemistry and mathematics.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The course is taught through exercises which are focused on practical topics presented in lectures.
Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes
Course-unit credit requirments: Active participation in seminars, written examination.
Aims
The course objective is to make students familiar with the process problems of Butadiene plant, Synthetic rubber plant, Styrene plant, ABS plant etc. Students will practice troubleshooting procedures (Problem identification, Possible causes determination and dentification, Problem fixing, Results evaluation).
Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences
Participation in seminars is checked.
