Course detail
Experimental Methods in Tribology
FSI-9EXT Acad. year: 2020/2021 Both semester
The overall aim of this course is to provide students with a general and useful introduction to the tribological testing, with particular emphasis on the study of elastohydrodynamic (EHD) lubrication. The course covers range from the basic technology of experimental tribometers, to the theory of friction and wear testing.

Learning outcomes of the course unit
– The ability to identify the key problems for experimental validation of tribological problems
- The ability to select proper experimental metods with respect to the specific problems in the field of tribology
- The ability to present the obtained results in review scientific paper
Prerequisites
Knowledge from general courses on mechanics, machine elements, materials technology and surface engineering.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The course is taught through lectures explaining the basic principles and theory of the discipline.
Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes
The evaluation of students is based on a research review paper discussing some aspect of EHD and tribology theory and research. This paper should be approximately 10 pages long.
Aims
The main aim is to provide basic knowledge of the experimental methods in the field of tribology with respect to the topic of PhD thesis.
Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences
Absence from lessons may be compensated for according to instructions of the teacher.
