Seven representatives of Brno University of Technology were among those officially appointed as new professors during a ceremony held on 16 June at the Karolinum in Prague. One of them was Josef Sedlák from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, who received his appointment decree – the highest academic teaching rank – from the President of the Czech Republic.
Professor Josef Sedlák specializes in engineering technology and materials, with a focus on the development of analyses, research reports, and applied economic activities. His main research interests include rapid prototyping technologies, reverse engineering, chip machining technologies (especially CNC machining), as well as bending and welding technologies.
He is a co-investigator on several projects funded by non-departmental providers (MIT TRIO, TAČR – TREND, TAČR – THÉTA), and also the principal investigator of two internal research projects at Brno University of Technology. Within the institute’s various research groups, he leads a team focused on cutting tool testing and additive material modifications, with strong applications in the engineering industry.
He is the author or co-author of 43 publications in WoS, one patent and two utility models. He also serves as deputy director at the Institute of Manufacturing Technology, FME BUT.
Congratulations!
President of the Czech Republic Petr Pavel emphasized the key role of education, science, research, and innovation for the further development of the country and society during the appointment of 87 new professors. He was followed by Minister of Education, Youth and Sports Mikuláš Bek. “The appointment of new professors is an important moment for the entire academic community and society. It is a recognition of long-term scientific and pedagogical work, which strengthens the quality of Czech higher education. The academic excellence to which these experts contribute is key to the development of an educated and democratic society.”
