The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at Brno University of Technology (FME BUT) has long demonstrated that its role does not end with teaching, research, and technical education. Social responsibility and a willingness to help where it truly matters are an integral part of its identity. One notable example is the faculty’s involvement in recruiting donors for the Czech Bone Marrow Donors Registry at IKEM.
During this year’s recruitment event in November, 35 new voluntary donors registered at FME. They decided to give a part of themselves to help patients suffering from serious hematological diseases. Each such registration represents hope—especially for those who cannot find a suitable donor within their family and must rely on the help of unrelated volunteers.
The long-term involvement of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at BUT is already producing tangible results. Since 2018, a total of 574 volunteers have joined the Czech Bone Marrow Donors Registry through recruitment events held at FME. According to statistics, every 125 newly registered donors mean one human life saved. In this light, the faculty’s activities may have contributed to saving several lives, giving the entire initiative a profound and meaningful purpose.
The event at the faculty was traditionally organized by the ALMA MATER association (registered association). We greatly appreciate the long-term cooperation and professional approach of the organizers, thanks to whom recruitment events at FSI can take place repeatedly and deliver a concrete, positive impact.
