Andrea Konečná of CEITEC BUT and the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering has received the Learned Society of the Czech Republic Award in the category of young researcher. At its 32nd General Assembly on 11 May 2026, the Learned Society of the Czech Republic awarded medals for contributions to the development of science, as well as prizes to outstanding scientists, teachers, and talented secondary-school and university students.
At CEITEC BUT, Andrea Konečná leads the Advanced Electron Microscopy and Spectroscopy research group. Her work brings together electron microscopy, spectroscopy, solid-state physics, and light optics. She focuses on the interaction of fast electrons with optical fields, electron beam shaping, and the development of light-controlled electron optics. According to the Learned Society, her research is paving the way for a new generation of electron microscopes as well as new imaging and spectroscopic methods.
Konečná’s research has recently been supported by two major grants: the GA CR Junior Star grant and an ERC-CZ grant from the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports. Andrea Konečná first attracted attention during her doctoral studies in San Sebastián, Spain, and later during her time in Barcelona, where she published papers in prestigious scientific journals and established international collaborations. In addition to her research, she teaches and supervises students at the Institute of Physical Engineering of FME.
Each year, the Learned Society of the Czech Republic honours leading scientific figures, educators, and talented students for their contributions to science, research, and education.
We warmly congratulate Associate Professor Konečná!
