When the weather is on your side, an outdoor event is already halfway to success—and that was exactly the case at this year’s BUT Sports Day, in which the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering actively took part on Wednesday, 20 May. The whole day was marked by a friendly atmosphere, a sporting spirit, and, above all, time spent together across the faculty’s departments.
The morning programme featured a group walk for employees from the Dean’s Office and individual institutes to Brno Airport. This informal gathering outside the workplace offered space for conversation, getting to know colleagues, and making new connections—all an important part of a well-functioning workplace community.
In the afternoon, a five-a-side football tournament followed, with seven teams from the institutes as well as a Dean’s Office team led by the new FME Secretary, Lukáš Palek. The teams were drawn into two groups, where they gradually tested their skills against one another. The top four—teams from the Institute of Physical Engineering, the Institute of Mathematics, Konstrukting FC, and FC Dean’s Office—then competed for trophies with commemorative plaques.

The tournament was won by Konstrukting FC from the Institute of Machine and Industrial Design. “Our team’s success came down to good tactics and coordination. We have a group of students, graduates, and employees who regularly play together. We were also greatly helped by our coach, who arrived for the final and, through his determined silence, elevated our performance to championship level,” said Konstrukting FC captain Petr Krejčiřík with a smile.
Second place went to teachers and researchers from the Institute of Mathematics, last year’s tournament winners, while the Institute of Physical Engineering team took third place. A big thank you goes to all colleagues who took part in Sports Day and helped create its great atmosphere—whether on the pitch, through organisation, or by supporting their teams.

- 2nd place – Institute of Mathematics
- 3rd place – Institute of Physical Engineering
The day concluded with a barbecue behind Building A4, where employees had the chance to meet and enjoy a relaxed afternoon together. Tournament director Dominik Bokůvka from CESA and FME Secretary Lukáš Palek presented awards to all participating teams.
Events like this show how valuable shared experiences outside the everyday work agenda can be: they support teamwork, strengthen interpersonal relationships, and contribute to a pleasant working environment across the faculty.
We hope you enjoyed this year’s BUT Sports Day and look forward to meeting again next year. Sports Day will take place on Wednesday, 19 May 2027.
