Students from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at Brno University of Technology won first prize and two jury awards in the tenth annual student competition organised by SVS FEM. Jiří Baklík took first place with his master's thesis analysing the behaviour of a spring in a turbocharger assembly. The jury also recognised the bachelor's theses of Marie Jandoušová and Simona Mozgová.
The competition is open to students whose final theses address original engineering problems using Ansys or Particleworks simulation tools or custom-coded software. Winners are selected by an expert jury made up of specialists from SVS FEM.
This year's top prize went to Jiří Baklík from the Engineering Mechanics Division of the Institute of Solid Mechanics, Mechatronics and Biomechanics at FME BUT. His master's thesis, entitled ANALYSIS OF THE STRESS-STRAIN BEHAVIOR OF A THRUST DISC SPRING IN A TURBOCHARGER AT HIGH TEMPERATURES, focused on coupled analyses involving multiple physical phenomena.
For his first-place finish, he received a cash prize of CZK 8,000 and the opportunity to attend a certified training course of his choice. His thesis supervisor, Petr Vosynek, also received a cash award of CZK 2,000.
Two FME students also achieved success in the bachelor's thesis category. Marie Jandoušová impressed the jury with her thesis, BATTERY CELLS MECHANICAL PROPERTIES, while Simona Mozgová received an award for her thesis, NUMERICAL MODEL OF SPENT NUCLEAR FUEL COOLING IN DRY STORAGE. Both students were awarded the opportunity to attend a certified specialist training course of their choice.
In the main category, second place went to Ondřej Soukup from Jan Evangelista Purkyně University in Ústí nad Labem, while Lukáš Lipenský from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Communication at BUT finished third. Another jury award for a bachelor's thesis went to Yehor Popov from the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava. The full competition results are available on the SVS FEM website.
Congratulations to all the award winners!
