From racing cars and aircraft to pneumatics, robots, materials and modern design. Once again this year, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering took part in the Festival of Science and Technology, which filled the Brno Exhibition Centre with experiments, technology and scientific demonstrations for visitors of all ages from 4 to 6 September.

FME was well represented at the festival. Colleagues from the Institute of Materials Science and Engineering introduced visitors to the fascinating world of materials, demonstrating metal hardening, the magnetic properties of materials and a Cold Spray technology simulator, among other things.

The Institute of Machine and Industrial Design showcased student projects as well as modern technologies used in development and prototyping. The Pneuracer competition was also on display, giving secondary school students the opportunity to design and build vehicles powered by compressed air.

The mechatronics team demonstrated robotics and the integration of different engineering disciplines. Their four robots represented the key areas of mechatronics – programming, control, mechanical design and electrical engineering.

Student teams also formed a prominent part of the Faculty's presence. TU Brno Racing presented its single-seater racing car and Formula racing simulator, while Chicken Wings introduced visitors to the principles of aircraft design and gave them the chance to build their own glider. Lizard Engineers also joined the festival programme with their open workshop.

The Festival of Science and Technology is organised by the Brno Observatory and Planetarium and brings together scientific and technical institutions, educational organisations, academic departments, universities and companies in one place every year. This year's festival took place from 4 to 6 September at the Brno Exhibition Centre.
