Air Navigation

The subject containts fundamental information about air navigation. It represents: Objections, tasks & principles of air navigation. Terminology. Methods used on air navigation. Navigation parameters & navigation measurements. Processing of navigation data obtained. Contemplations and tendencies of modernization of aircraft navigation equipment.

Learning outcomes of the course unit
Students will learn to understand the basics of aircraft navigation. They will be made familiar with principles of navigation equipment, basic navigation quantities and options to measure them. They will understand principles of astronomical navigation, long distance navigation and conditions of space navigation (3D, 4D).
Prerequisites
Knowledge of academic mathematics and physics.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The course is taught through lectures explaining the basic principles and theory of the discipline. Exercises are focused on practical topics presented in lectures.
Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes
Conditions for obtaining the course-unit credit: participation in the course (80% at the minimum). The course-unit credit is necessary to be admitted to examinations. Classification fulfils the University requirements.
Aims
The course objective is to make students familiar with the basics of aircraft navigation.
Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences
Attendance at both lectures and exercises is compulsory (80% at least), and it is checked and recorded. The absence (in justifiable cases) can be compensated by personal consultation with the lecturer and elaboration of individually assigned topics and exercises. Individual assignments must be finished and handed in within the credit week at the latest.

12. Communication on aircraft navigation (ATN; AFTN; AMS; AMSS; SSR).
