Course detail

Machine Design

FSI-2K Acad. year: 2016/2017 Summer semester

The aim of the course is to provide requisites of engineering (especially drawing) documentation and its requirements in terms of batch production, i. e. engineering drawings of welded, cast, forged and other parts. Emphasis is being placed on optimizing of the functional and technological dimensioning in the development of a complete engineering drawing documentation of an assembly unit (assembly drawing, part drawings and piece list).

Learning outcomes of the course unit

The subject “Machine Design” provides students with knowledge and skills which are necessary for working out a complete drawing documentation of an assembly unit. Great emphasis is placed to ensuring function and interchangeability considering the manufacturing technology of individual parts. The students learn, when working out the drawing, how to apply the peculiarities of these elements resulting from their production seriality.

Prerequisites

Knowledge of design basics (fundamentals of drawing principles, drawing documentation, dimensioning, tolerances, principles of functional and technological dimensioning), materials science (selection of materials and its normalization).

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The course is taught through exercises which are focused on practical topics presented in lectures.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Terms of graded credit: attendance at seminars, elaboration of graphic projects (programs), graduation of tests and tasks. Students must complete all four terms. Final classification according to ECTS.

Aims

The aim of the course of “Machine Design” is to provide students with the process of working out the drawing where a semi-finished product is represented by cast or forging, and to acquaint them with elaboration of drawing documentation for welded structures. Another goal is the creation of a complete drawing documentation of an assembly unit. The students should extend their knowledge and acquire skills necessary for creation of part drawings considering production seriality, as well as complex elaboration of the drawing documentation.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Attendance at seminars is checked. Maximum of two authorized absence without compensation of lesson are allowed.
