Course detail

Technological Preparation of Foundry Production

FSI-PTC Acad. year: 2026/2027 Summer semester

The course covers the selection of casting production technologies, with a focus on sand mold casting, including the design of gating and riser systems. Students will learn to prepare technical documentation, such as process drawings, layout design of castings within molds, and perform necessary technological calculations. The course emphasizes the application of metal flow and solidification principles to the production of real castings, as well as the optimization of manufacturing processes to enhance efficiency and quality. Students will also gain experience in the use of numerical simulation for designing casting production technologies and in the calculation of production costs for castings.

Entry knowledge

Knowledges of technology of foundry moulds production, metalurgical and technological properties of alloys

Rules for evaluation and completion of the course

Credit: Participation and appropriate knowledge in courses, elaborating 2 technological projects in the course of a semester
Exam: Credit, numerical part of exam, verbal part of exam

Aims

The course aims to provide students with knowledge of designing and preparing technical documentation for casting production, with an emphasis on applying numerical methods to ensure the required casting quality and optimize production costs. Students will learn to develop technical documentation for casting production, applying theoretical knowledge to real manufacturing processes. They will also acquire the skills to practically use numerical simulation to evaluate and optimize technological processes.
