A Practical Handbook for Writers in Materials Engineering

Development of appropriate professional writing skills is essential for the accurate dissemination of ideas, procedures, and results achieved in research, development, manufacturing, and sale of engineering products. Therefore a team of material developers from five countries (Czech Republic, Italy, Slovenia, Iceland, and United Kingdom) gave rise to the project entitled Writing Professional English. The final product offers a set of self-study training modules (reference handbooks and exercises) for professional writers in English, from which any end-user, or national group of end-users, can select what is appropriate for them and enhance the level of their writing skills. One of the modules is specifically designed for materials engineers through authentic examples and extracts of texts from materials engineering area. This approach seems to be very convenient for the end-users as it was proved through testing of draft materials that was carried out by materials engineers from universities, research institutes, and industrial enterprises.
